Key Background

Tata Motors has launched the Harrier EV, its highest end and advanced electric SUV yet, as a flagship model in India’s expanding EV market. Designed on the developed Acti.ev Plus platform, the Harrier EV marries rugged SUV capability and advanced electric architecture. The Harrier EV retains the aggressive road presence of the ICE Harrier with the addition of EV-focused design elements such as full-width LED lighting, closed-grille, and advanced-looking alloy wheels and aerodynamics.

With rear-wheel-drive single-motor and all-wheel-drive dual-motor variants, the Harrier EV will be providing significant performance, particularly with its Boost mode in the AWD variant capable of producing up to 504 Nm of torque. The SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in over six seconds, cementing its sporty nature. It also has sophisticated off-road capability, as it did in its ascent of the Kerala Elephant Rock—an adrenaline-charged showcase of its on-the-road performance and handling.

Battery choices are 65 kWh and 75 kWh LFP packs with a MIDC-verified operating range of up to 627 km. The Harrier EV can be ultra-fast DC charged at 120 kW, and it only takes 15 minutes to recharge up to 250 km. It also features AC charging capacity at 3.3 kW and 7.2 kW.

Inside, the cabin features dual-tone leatherette trimming, ventilated front seats (driver with memory), ambient lighting, and a large panoramic sunroof. The dashboard features a 14.5-inch Neo QLED infotainment screen with over-the-air updates and smart connected car technology. A digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and JBL speakers with Dolby Atmos integration support in-cabin technology and convenience.

The EV also has V2L (vehicle-to-load) and V2V (vehicle-to-vehicle) capability, enabling the vehicle to charge an external device or even recharge another EV. Summon is convenient through the provision of auto-parking.

Safety is also a priority, and this includes seven airbags, advanced driver assist systems (ADAS), electronic stability control, blind spot detection, and 360-degree camera with transparent bonnet view.

The Harrier EV will come in trims such as Empowered, Fearless, and Adventure, along with a matte-black Stealth Edition variant. Deliveries start in July 2025, and Tata is aiming to compete in the premium SUV segment in the EV space.
